Sprites, Items, Mobiles, Players

Eternal Realms uses a hierarchy for the things that you'll find in game:

Sprites:

First of all, the Sprite represents all objects that can appear on a map or be described. You can't make something that is just a sprite... but you can have an item, a mobile, or a player.

Also, you might here the word sprite refer to the image that represents the sprite. It's probably helpful for you to think of them as about the same thing. Both a snake and a sword are sprites!

Items:

An item is any worldly object that a someone might pick up or otherwise interact with. This includes food, swords, armor, coins, herbs, corpses, torches, apples, and flasks.

Many items may be worn. Those items will grant the user some kind of Good Thing, usually a stat increase. Whatever effects that are added to this item will be granted to the wearer for the duration of the wearing.

An item is a sprite.

Mobiles:

Mobiles represent the critters, humanoids, and all the monsters of the world. They move around and might be able to talk, fight, or otherwise interact with a variety of things.

A mobile is a sprite. Mobile is often shortened as mob.

Players:

A player is a special mob that is controlled by a real person. Therefore, players have passwords and connections. Otherwise, they can simply do everything that a mobile can do.

A player is a mob and a sprite.
